CH Morningstar-Gaylord No Kinshu Go Sho Mai Sou entering 2nd year of showing
by Rex Gaylord on 03/25/13On Saturday, March 30th and Sunday, March 31st, it was with great enthusiasm that Tanya and Kimi began their 2nd year in the show ring together. Kimi and Tanya had been out of the show ring since August while Tanya studied to take the Patent Bar Exam. With that out of the way, the first show back was the 59th All Breed Show at the Riviera Hotel & Casino sponsored by the Silver State Kennel Club in Las Vegas. Out of approximately 1200 dogs entered, there were 16 Shiba Inu entries on Saturday and 15 on Sunday.
Tanya and Kimi went up against some pretty tough competition. We met Laurie who owns Morningstar's Dances With Wolves, the BOB winner both days and who also got a Group 1 and Group 2 respectively. Dance was handled by a great guy, Kosei who came over from Hawaii to handle Dance for the weekend. Kosei originally handled dogs in his native Japan, so it was great fun to spend an evening with him learning about the breed and his handling methods. I would love to be able handle a dog in the ring like Kosei. Sunday night, the Primarily Prime Rib actually turned the lights out on us to get our attention to leave We met Gregg, another member of the Hawaii crew and the owner of Strawberry, one of our favorite girls to leave the Morningstar mansion. Strawberry is now known as Kimi, so our dog conversations got confusing sometimes until I figured out there were two Kimi's. As always, we were so happy to get some time with Joni, our friend and mentor. My head will hurt for a week from all the info we got in one weekend.
On the first day, no points were won by Tanya and Kimi, but on the second day they got Select Bitch for a 5 point major, winning over the first of three required Grand Champions. Kimi now has 9 of the 25 points required for Grand Champion.
